Recently, I had a couple of hours in my hands. I tried doing my assignment but that just drew too many stares from passers-by and feeling shy, I withdraw. So that made me no choice but to roam around Kinokuniya which is heaven especially for a bookworm like me. So I decided to pick up a book at random (that is, after searches for books I wanted to read came up fruitless) and I took the first book in my line of vision:
Jaclyn Dolamore's
Magic under Glass.

Nimira is a music-hall performer forced to dance for pennies to an audience of leering drunks. When wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to do a special act - singing accompaniment to an exquisite piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it is the start of a new life. In Parry's world, however, buried secrets stir.
Unsettling below-stairs rumours abound about ghosts, a mad woman roaming the halls, and of Parry's involvement in a gang of ruthless sorcerers who torture fairies for sport. When Nimira discovers the spirit of a dashing young fairy gentleman is trapped inside the automaton's stiff limbs, waiting for someone to break the curse and set him free, the two fall in love. But it is a love set against a dreadful race against time to save the entire fairy realm, which is in mortal peril.
First off, fantasy was not really the kind of genre I would go for if given a choice but this book grabbed my attention from the start. It struck me in a sort of
Studio Ghibli's
Howl's Moving Castle in a way (which I wholly recommend by the way. My parents liked it even if they won't openly admit it!) Though, to be sure, it isn't the most groundbreaking novel I have ever read. What I would say is that it is a breath of fresh air with a market grossly saturated with stories about vampires and wolfs (yawn) and the storyline is interesting & nice enough. The two complaint I have is the length; it should be double the current number of pages as well as that the ending felt a little rush, giving me a reason to expect a sequel to the book.
On an unrelated note, *we* have been craving for Pulau Ketam's fresh and delicious seafood. Currently bored with all the choices available in KL and PJ. Although, if you are ever craving for some Tom Yam, I recommend heading to KL Sentral and walk a little furthur down the road passing the YMCA building. If I could, I would be eating there every day but too heaty and it is super spicy. Don't hesitate to ask if you wanna know exactly where it is. (I do realize my directions are pretty screwy)
ps *we*- him and me ;P
yeah, we are becoming 'that' sort of couple. Don't puke on us just yet though. Haha.
